Signed In Blood!
Live on this planet long enough and you’ll surely notice that most people’s word don’t mean shit. They’ll tell you one thing and do something else. Make promises they don’t plan on keeping and worst of all they say things they don’t mean.
This leads to the age-old adage “It takes a lifetime to build a reputation; only five minutes to ruin it.”
By repeatedly accepting responsibility to do something for others but rarely following through on your commitment shows that you are not a person of your word. Somebody who is reliable. Thus anything else you say can and will be held against you in the court of public opinion, and you’re not going to like it.
Trust is an essential ingredient for any relationship to flourish. So remember, most often then not the world you live in is a manifestation of your inside.
Even worse than breaking your word to other people: Letting yourself down. Lying to yourself… Making excuses and giving-up, and allowing fear and complacency to take over your life. So naturally you’re going to let other people down too. And if you can’t trust yourself then why would anyone else trust you?
A Man of His Words
This ultimately boils down to a lack of self-awareness and self-acceptance.
You have to know exactly who you are: Your strengths, your values, and how to apply them to create a meaningful and purposeful life. On top of that, you must accept the good, the bad, and the indifferent about your person no matter what unconventional tendencies you may have. Only then will your word carry value.
Otherwise you will agree and accept responsibility for things you have no intention on following through on and in no time your reputation will precede you.
Only when your word carries value will your commitments be signed in blood
So, the next time you are about to accept responsibility or agree to do something for someone, sign it in blood. If you can’t, kindly decline it.
