Garbage In, Garbage Out: Challenging Your Beliefs
Does it matter what you believe? Of course it does: your beliefs help you interpret the world and make decisions. The old computer adage “garbage in, garbage out” holds true for our everyday lives as well. Our beliefs influence the way we live our lives, the choices we make, the priorities we set…everything we do that makes us who we are.
Some of our beliefs are helpful, while others are hindrances on the path toward happiness and healthy mental and emotional independence. Unless you examine and challenge your beliefs on a regular basis, however, you may not be able to tell the difference between the two. When that happens, negative self-talk can push you out of the driver’s seat and back into the passenger seat in your own life, and then drive you places you really do not want to go
